Chairman, Nasarawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Yunana Iliya, on Sunday opposed the N30 billion loan proposed by Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura’s administration to finance the state.
A statement signed by the Iliya and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria said that the proposed loan would impoverish the state.
“The N30 billion loan is a dangerous precedence that will spell doom for the state. The state is yet to recover from the embezzlement of more than N40 billion collected in the past 17 months from the federation account apart from grants and excess crude oil funds and internal generated revenue.
“The government is trying to milk the state dry and leave it with debt,” he said.
He said that the loan would mortgage the future of the state and leave subsequent governments in a dilemma.
The party chairman said in spite of the dismissal of more than 7000 workers and 26 permanent secretaries, the salaries of workers in the state remained static without reflecting the savings of the sacked workers’ salaries.
