A 26- year-old man, John Dantala was on Thursday arraigned before an Upper Area Court in Jos over alleged rape of his 12-year-old daughter.
Dantala, who resides at Faringada area of Jos, was alleged to have had carnal knowledge of the minor on July 27, at about 5 p.m.
The police prosecutor, Cpl Gokwat Ibrahim, told the court that the accused had invited the girl to his room and raped her, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
He said that the girl’s guardian, one Asabe Amadi, reported the matter at the Laranto police station, alleging that Dantala had raped her 12-year-old niece.
The prosecutor told the court that the complainant informed the police that the accused, who resides in the same area with them, took advantage of her absence to commit the offence.
Ibrahim further told the court that the victim had been taken to a hospital for treatment and a medical report had been obtained.
Dantala, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
After his arraignment, the judge, Malam Mustapha Hassan, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum.
Hassan, then adjourned the case till December 19 for hearing and ordered the prosecutor to get his witnesses ready.
